This is an ongoing series of mix-media works (photography, drawing, embroidery, performance and video) that speculates about identity stereotypes and cultural pressures women face daily. Femanoid reflects how the concept of gender has been changing and, more recently, how has it been subject to such intense controversy. Femanoid is formed by the combination of the noun “fema” and the adjective “humanoid”, the latter used to indicate something that resembles a human. It is also a nonsense name that makes me think about the redundant meaning-making processes that categorise women’s look, ideas, behaviours and interests.
