PROJECTS

FEMANOIDS
Since 2022

This is an ongoing series of mix-media artworks — photography, drawing, embroidery, artist book, performance and video — that speculates about identities of women and stereotypes. Femanoid is a nonsense concept to think about symbolic meaning-making processes in techno societies.

The trophy is made of a medallion of recycled plastic (nylon) part of abandoned fishing nets taken from the Portuguese coast. The center of the medallion is filled with a high relief  shape of a coral also made of recycled plastic. The stand is made of walnut wood. The making of this trophy was part of a partnership between WMPT, fablab_lisboa, and Zero p.

DAYDREAMING DEVICES
2007-2014

Under the umbrella of the concept of Daydreaming in Public I have created participatory art & design objects that mostly stage sleep and rest in public. They are praising public space as a site for Daydreaming Together and communicate world views, in ways that amplify our understanding of the waken life. Part of my studies at the Visual Arts Program (VAP), current Art, Culture and Technology Program (ACT), at the School of Architecture and Planning at MIT, USA.

In certain social classes in the West the debutant ball is a traditional rite of passage for teen girls. It’s a party that marks the start of adult life. Girls are left to deal with a succession of events that will change their lives in unexpected ways.
